3-Day Juice Diet Plans

3-Day Juice Diet Plans

Normally, juicing is not a daily affair. What this means is that you do not have to do it every day. Some people even designate a specific day of the week when they will juice. For instance, it could be on a Sunday, when they will just stay at home. They make that day their "Detox" day. Nevertheless, it will require good juice diet plans.

However, there are some people who want to take their juicing diet to the higher level. Hence, instead of just one day, they want to extend it to three (3) days. Of course, if you are into this situation, you do not want to drink the same juice for the entire three (3) days, right? This is when having good juice diet plans would be vital and, in fact, necessary.

Reminders and Disclaimers

Before going to the suggested recipes for your 3-day Juice Diet Plans, there are important things that you need to be reminded about first. These are particularly about the following:

1. There is no way you will drastically lose weight in just three (3) days.
2. You need to get active and engage into physical activities.
3. Consider your activities and energy requirements.

Recommended 3-Day Juice Diet Plan

Upon waking up in the morning and before having your breakfast, it is recommended that you drink two (2) glasses of warm water first. This is to warm up your stomach. You might also want to add lemon or ginger in your water, but this is optional.

Breakfast: Carrot - Apple - Lemon Juice

It is true that you need to start your day with a heavy meal. However, this is not limited in eating bacon, hotdog, fried rice and the like. You can also do this by drinking carrot-based juices, for instance.

On your first day, put four (4) pieces of carrots, two (2) pieces of apples and one piece of lemon. On your second day, you might want to consider substituting the lemon with a small piece of ginger root. On the third day, you can add two (2) pieces of oranges and one beet with the carrots.

Morning Snack: For your morning snack, you can drink around 16 ounces of unflavoured coconut water. This will give you a good energy boost to withstand your daily activities.

Lunch: Garden Variety

GREEN IS IN, most especially when it comes to juice diet plans. Garden Variety is just one of the great recipes that you will surely love. To prepare this, you will need the following:

- 2 pcs. of apples
- 2 pcs. of cucumber
- 6 to 8 kale leaves
- A handful of parsley
- Beets (alternative: Australian Tuscan cabbage)

On your second and third days of juicing, you can have Green Lemonade and Mean Green juices, respectively. For the former, the ingredients are:

- 6 to 8 kale leaves (alternative: Australian Tuscan cabbage)
- 3 handfuls of spinach
- 1 pc. of green apple
- 1 pc. of cucumber
- 2 celery stalks
- 1 pc. of lemon

The following are the major ingredients of Mean Green juice:

- 6 kale leaves (alternative: Australian Tuscan cabbage)
- 1 pc. of cucumber
- 2 stalks of celery
- 1 pc. of green apple
- Half piece of lemon
- Lemon

Afternoon Snack: Watermelon Crush

Watermelon Crush is very easy to prepare. You can have it in just a few minutes. What you need are half watermelon and a piece of lime. You might also want to put a handful of basil leaves in order to add aroma and refreshing kick.

For your second and third days, you can prepare the Un-Beet-able and Sporty Spice red juices. For the first one, the following are the things that you will need:

- 1 pc. of apple
- 1 pc. of beet
- 3 pcs. of carrots
- Small ginger root
- 3 cups of green leaves (e.g. kale, spinach, collards or Swiss chard)

The recommended recipe for your third day afternoon snack is the Sporty Spice red juice, which is ideal to drink after your workout. To prepare this, you will need:

- 2 pcs. of beets
- 1 pc. of carrot
- 3 stalks of celery
- Half peeled lemon
- 1 pc. of peeled orange
- A handful of basil leaves

Dinner and Dessert: Purple Passion

Purple juices are great for desserts. However, they can serve as your dinner as well. For purple passion, you will only need three (3) things, which are purple, black or red grapes (around 30 pieces), a basket of blueberries and a handful of mint.

For the second and third days, Peach Pie Delight and Red-White-Blue Juices are suggested. You will need the following for the first one:

- 1 pc. of sweet potato
- 2 pcs. of pitted peaches
- 1 pc. of red apple
- A handful of blueberries
- Cinnamon

On the other hand, you will need a quarter of watermelon, two handfuls of blueberries and 6 to 8 leaves of kale for the third recipe for your dinner.

Bedtime: Before going to bed, you can drink a cup of herbal tea after having these great recipes for your juice diet plans.

Acne Troubles... And Solutions ?

Acne Troubles... And Solutions ?

The vast majority of us would get to experience or had already experienced having acne. It's not the type of experience you look forward to having. In fact, it is an experience you wish you won't ever experience again. It's embarrassing to say the least and it can be quite painful too.

Those who have acne can become very desperate in finding acne solutions that actually work. They want the results to be quick ! Acne gone overnight or acne gone within seconds but there is really no such thing. Those products that promise these are most often harmful to your skin. They may be too strong that it ends up drying your skin and making it even more irritating. Having dried-up skin is not a good thing too as it only makes your glands produce even more sebum to compensate to the loss of moisture. The more oil, the more that acne thrives.

In order to get rid of acne, you have to be really patient. It takes time to get a perfect skin. There is no miracle product out there that will remove it overnight. It takes awhile but you have to be patient and not stressed as stress is also a factor for acne breakouts. And also, don't ever get tempted to squeeze out those pus-filled pimples on your face. Doing so will only promote even more pimples and that is not good. Just try not to touch your face as hands usually have germs and this can be transported to your face and worsen the problem further.

The best acne solutions and products are mild cleansers and topical solutions that you could apply to affected areas. Don't apply it all over your face though. Wash twice a day and remember to always keep your face clean and moisturized. If it gets too oily, use a product that could absorb the oil or use hypoallergenic powder.

Depending on your acne condition (mild, moderate, severe) and skin type (normal, dry, oily), your acne solution may not be what your friends are using and successful with. A simple change in your lifestyle or diet may be enough, that's why today skin care supplements are sometimes part of the acne treatments to rebalance your hormonal system or intestinal micro-flora. You may want to try natural acne products that are effective and gentle enough for sensitive skin, or a formula containing a combination of natural and scientific ingredients.

A complete solution should not address only one cause of acne but multiple (all if possible). That is why a treatment kit is often more effective than just one product that fights only one cause of acne, because everyone's skin is different and so is the cause of acne.

Sick of Traditional Diets? 5 Benefits of Diet Meal Delivery

Sick of Traditional Diets? 5 Benefits of Diet Meal Delivery

Fed up with traditional diets? Looking for an easier way to lose weight?

If so, then may want to consider using a diet meal delivery service. These services will prepare and cook weight loss meals for you and ship them directly to your home. All you have to do is heat and eat - and watch the weight come off!

Diet delivery services give you several key benefits over traditional diets. Here are 5 benefits you get by having your diet meals delivered:

#1 Better Chance of Weight Loss Success

In a recent study done by Brown University, people trying to lose weight by eating prepared meals lost an average of 31% more weight than those who made their own meals.

This makes sense - when all the work is done for you, it's easy to stick to the diet plan and lose weight!

#2 Save Time

The number one reason people give up on their diets is that they get too busy to cook and prepare special meals. They need something they can "grab and go".

That's where a diet delivery service can help - you'll have meals on hand at all times. Most meals can be heated up in the microwave in about 5 minutes - or in the oven in about 30 minutes.

So you'll have more time to spend with your family, at work or relaxing!

#3 No Deprivation - Feel Pampered!

Traditional diets are built on deprivation. You starve for weeks eating cardboard-tasting food, only to throw in the towel because you need a treat.

That's normal. We humans do not act well when we feel deprived. We need to feel pampered sometimes - especially when going through a stress like losing weight.

But when you find the right diet delivery service, you'll be eating delicious, sumptuous meals that make you feel pampered instead of deprived. This makes losing weight much more enjoyable!

#4 Save Money

While diet delivery used to be only for movie stars and power executives, nowadays plans are more affordable. Because they can order in bulk, many delivery services can prepare gourmet meals for a lot less than the rest of us could.

You can find plans that start from around $18 a day. That's less than many people spend on just 1 restaurant meal!

When you add up food costs, gas costs and the cost of your time to buy and prepare the food, many delivery services can actually save you money.

#5 Get Healthier and Have More Energy!

Eating healthy is tough today - there are so many preservatives, artificial sweeteners and other toxic ingredients in the foods we eat.

But many diet delivery services will make your meals fresh with no preservatives, artificial sweeteners or MSG. You can even find meals that cater to people with health issues too like diabetes-friendly or gluten-free plans.

So you're not only losing weight - you're getting healthier too. You'll feel better and have lots more energy when you're eating this way.

So those are 5 benefits of using a diet delivery service to lose weight. You have lots of options, but each one has pros and cons. To find the best fit for you, do your research before you buy and choose a service that meets your needs and budget!

Is Dry Mouth More Than Just A Nuisance?

Is Dry Mouth More Than Just A Nuisance?

For those with chronic dry mouth (that feeling that there is not enough saliva in the mouth), they know it's more than a nuisance. The salivary glands are not working properly. Not only does it affect chewing, swallowing, enjoying certain foods, digestion and even speech, it also affects teeth.

Dry mouth (xerostomia) can cause cavities. Most people may experience dry mouth from time to time if they are nervous or under stress. However, dry mouth that is persistent is not normal, it is not part of aging and it is not good. The saliva in the mouth washes away food particles and acts as a neutralizer for the acids in the mouth that cause decay of tooth enamel.

Without the necessary saliva, the propensity for teeth to get cavities is greater. Without saliva, the mouth is more prone to bacterial and fungal infections. Saliva also is important for re-mineralization of enamel and contains digestive enzymes.

Symptoms of xerostomia include a sticky, dry or burning feeling in the mouth. The throat may also feel dry and one has a feeling of being thirsty. Lips may crack and the tongue may feel dry and rough. Sometimes the person may have trouble chewing, swallowing, tasting or even speaking. There may be an infection in the mouth or mouth sores. And bad breath is prevalent.

Causes of xerostomia are most often from breathing through your mouth while sleeping or side effects of some medication. Other possibilities for these salivary glands not working properly are from diseases such as HIV/AIDS or diabetes, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or nerve damage. Smoking, chewing tobacco and consuming alcohol can also cause dry mouth.

There are a variety of treatments for xerostomia depending on the cause. If one sleeps on their back there are devices to help keep the mouth closed. They include a chin strap and an oral vestibular shield that prevents the mouth from opening. However, consciously flipping on the stomach or side may be all that is needed. A nightshirt with a tennis ball in a sock pinned on the back can even help.

If a person is on one of the 400 medications that can have dry mouth as a side effect, they should see a physician for possibly changing or adjusting the dosage of the meds. Some examples of commonly prescribed drugs that can cause dry mouth are those for high blood pressure, depression, allergies, acne, diarrhea, obesity and asthma.

A person with dry mouth can also improve their saliva flow by frequently sipping on water, sucking on sugar-free candy containing xylitol, using a room humidifier - especially in the bedroom, and purchasing over-the-counter artificial saliva products. A dentist can prescribe an oral rinse that often helps. In some cases, there are medications that are used to get salivary glands working properly again.

Since tooth decay is exacerbated with dry mouth, it is imperative to keep the teeth clean. Home dental cleaning at least twice a day is necessary. Avoiding sugar or high carbohydrates helps. Professional cleanings every three months are recommended. So, dry mouth is more than just a nuisance. It can be a pain in the tooth.

Relationship Between Sinus Infection And Food

Relationship Between Sinus Infection And Food

Diet of a person plays a very vital role in the functioning of his body. The diet he consumes decides how his body will function. The more beneficial nutrients he receives the better chance his body has to fight the various infections. Different types of food contain various chemicals that can be useful for the human body. Food has a better effect on the long term health of a person as medicines can at times only address the symptoms of the infection but having a healthy diet will take care of the source of the infection.

Sinusitis, or sinus infection, is caused mainly by the inflammation of the sinus glands that are located in the front of the human face. This inflammation can take place due to various reasons; such as infection in the body, allergic reactions or chronic illness. Food can play a vital role in sinus infections in both, beneficial and harmful, ways.

There are various foods which are beneficial for our body when consumed during sinus. Chicken soup is a very useful food for treating sinus infection. The amino acid, cysteine, present in chicken helps in clearing of nasal passages and the heat of the soup also provides relief to the body. Not only soup, but hot drinks are also very helpful during sinusitis.

Therefore, drinking hot drinks, like coffee, tea and soup, will help in removal of the mucus, as it makes the cilia present in the nose movie faster, increasing its efficiency. Hot and spicy foods provide relief from mucus build up, as the substances in the chilies help in thinning of mucus which enables its easy flow. Water is also needed by the body when suffering from sinus. This is because dehydration can lead to the formation of thicker mucus which is liable to cause blockage in the nose. Therefore, it is necessary that the body is kept hydrated to enable easy passage of mucus.

While seeing the benefits of food, care must also be taken to avoid the foods that are harmful for a person suffering from sinusitis. Cold drinks should be avoided, as they do not have any nutritional benefit for the body.

Drinking cold drinks affects the immune system of the body causing the person to be more susceptible to diseases or infections. Even alcohol, dairy products and any food which leaves you feeling congested and uncomfortable should be avoided. When it comes to sinus treatment, prevention is the only cure. By taking care of our surroundings and by having a proper diet, sinus problems will not be an issue anymore.

Genetics and Hearing Loss - Did You Know There Is a Connection?

Genetics and Hearing Loss - Did You Know There Is a Connection?

Although genetics and otolaryngology don't often come to mind as related in any way, genetics plays a role in almost every type of human health condition in one form or another. Most patients don't realize it, but even conditions as mundane as hearing loss have a genetic basis - by some estimates, up to half of all patients suffering from hearing loss owe their conditions to genetics rather than to environmental factors. Even more surprising to the average patient, genetic testing is now used to diagnose the causes of hearing loss.

Genetic disease can present itself in three different forms -chromosomal, monogenic, and complex. If large segments of one or more chromosomes occur in only one copy, or in more than the expected two copies, the condition is called a chromosomal disorder. The most well-known example of this is Down syndrome. Single-gene (monogenic) disorders are those that are caused by a mutation in a single gene, and most cases of hearing loss fall into this category. Complex genetic disorders (such as cleft palate), are caused by the interaction of several genes, the environment, and random factors.

It's common for an otolaryngologist to encounter all three types of disorder during the course of his or her practice. Chromosomal disorders are the most severe, and patients usually have both hearing loss as well as head and neck problems The majority of people who go to see an otolaryngologist for treatment are likely to have conditions that are caused by complex disorders, however, meaning a mix of genetic and environmental influences are at play.

Genetic testing for hearing disorders is relatively straightforward, although it does present possible ethical questions (such as whether the patient or his family members wish to receive information about their likely susceptibility to various diseases and illnesses). DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and RNA (ribonucleic acid) have two properties that make testing easy. One is that DNA makes copies of itself easily, and the other is that copies stick to each other. For instance, if you start with a double strand of DNA and heat it up, the two strands will come apart into a mixture of single-stranded nucleic acid strands. You can then cool the mixture down and the complementary strands will stick back together again. This allows a type of process called polymearase chain reaction (PCR) to work - it's a method used to amplify targeted sequences of DNA. Although it involves more steps than those described here, the DNA polymearase chain is heated and cooled many times until the DNA fragment has been duplicated enough to use in testing - it's the manufactured DNA that is actually used in testing. Almost every modern genetic test in use today begins with the process of PCR.

To put this technology to work in a clinical setting, an otolaryngologist usually begins by testing the patient's DNA for known mutations. Screening for mutations that are already recognized to occur is usually faster and less expensive than testing to see whether a given patient has some brand-new or never-before-seen mutation. However, if nothing shows up after testing for previously identified mutations in humans, further testing for unknown mutations is also possible. Some mutations are so rare they have only been documented in one family or one patient! At this time, genetic technologies are used almost exclusively as a diagnostic tool - and most of the time the focus remains on disorders caused by major genes. If a patient is discovered to have a mutation responsible for causing hearing loss, head or neck deformities, etc., then there is no further need for clinical testing to determine the cause. In the case of hearing loss, this can save time as well as money.

An understanding of the human genome has opened a vast frontier of new knowledge to scientists, patients, and physicians alike. Without a doubt, new treatments and tests will continue to become available in the future and will continue to influence both otolaryngology as well as other medical specialties.

What Is Health and Safety

What Is Health and Safety?

As a business owner you need to view Health & Safety not just as having no accidents, but working with your staff to ensure the working environment is safe so they are as productive as possible. Workplace Health and Safety relates directly to where staff work e.g. the building, machinery and immediate local working environment. It is not directly concerned with staff ill health, unless the workplace caused it, but the workplace should be able to deal with the affects of an ill health situation eg first aid provision. Many organisations now extend into employee well being to keep them as healthy and as productive as possible.

Good Health and Safety is made up from three key areas - Moral, Legal and Financial.

Moral Reasons

It should go without saying that as a business owner you don't want to injure anyone as no one likes to see people being injured, made ill or affected by anything that is dangerous. As a responsible employer you would expect that staff work safely during the day, or night, and return home in the same condition they went to work in. A moral and ethical duty now exists to protect staff - including those that you maybe don't actually control but have access to your premises e.g. visitors, contractors and the general public.

Legal Reasons

Health and Safety law affects all organisations without exception. Smaller organisations may not have to complete risk assessments but they are still subject to the same legal duties. If they are found negligent in their legal duties they can be taken to court as well as face civil actions. Smaller organisations are more liable to court action as they are easier to prosecute as they are not as complicated as larger firms who also employ specialist advisers to reduce their risk.

Financial Reasons

Paying staff when they are not at work costs money. In addition you may have to pay for temporary cover or overtime whilst they are off and together with possible re-training costs, management time involved, injuries can be expensive. Paying fines and compensation is also expensive and takes many months to conclude and involve lots of time in defending a prosecution or a claim.

Any adverse publicity may also cost money due to the loss of potential orders and customers. Insurance companies don't like accidents either as they know they can be expensive. Insurance premiums will rise if accidents take place, conversely they may reduce if effective Health and Safety takes place within the organisation therefore saving your business money.

Health and Safety is based in law but can be very subjective - everyone seems to have a view and it can be an emotive one. Unfortunately accidents have always happened and will continue to do so, but as long as you did everything to prevent them or reduce the severity, you can rest a bit easier.

Glucose Metabolism, Leukemia and Diabetes

Glucose Metabolism, Leukemia and Diabetes

Let us examine the relationship between the sugar load in the human body and Leukemia and Diabetes. Different sugars, both the good sugars and harmful sugars affect blood chemistry that can mobilize a cascade of problems or benefits in human health.

The sugars we eat and the nutrients we get help determine our health. Why are the highest incidences of cancer in western nations? The lowest recorded incidences of cancer according to WHO appears to be in the developing countries of Northern Africa, Southern and Eastern Asia.

Some people eat very poorly and then consume what may in reality be a type of antidote that keeps the bad stuff from doing as much harm. Studies provide data supporting the French Paradox which indicates that proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids in red wines prevents cardiovascular diseases and diabetes although they have high-fat diets.

How the glucose metabolism is effected is the key to serious health challenges. If we can correct sugar spikes and move toward an optimum glucose metabolism, it seems obvious that we could improve human health in a major way. When we started getting reports of diabetics having a lower sugar load in their blood while eating Trehalose than when they stopped, we knew we were onto something significant.

An Australian paper about leukemia children entitled, Altered glucose metabolism in childhood pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukaemia reported that "the cells of solid tumours are known to have an altered metabolism, with high rates of glucose uptake and glycolysis, which results in the excessive production of lactate." Connecting the dots of research, we learned that the phytochemicals in cinnamon are similar to those found in red wine. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) identified these phytochemicals as chalcone polymers, which increase glucose metabolism in the cells by 20 times or more. Cinnamon also contains flavonoids called anthocyanins which improve capillary function and also serve as powerful antioxidants.

Research suggests that cinnamon helps glucose metabolism and blood pressure regulation, actually lowering high blood pressure. Other studies published in Diabetic Care show cinnamon not only helps control blood sugar levels but also triglycerides, total cholesterol and the 'bad' LDL cholesterol in those with type II diabetes.

We have documented other university studies that indicate the same flavonoids found in cinnamon effects leukemia and lymphoma cells. According to some studies, these phytochemicals have the potential to be used in leukemia therapy with the advantages of being widely available and selective against tumors.

All cinnamon is not the same. European health agencies have warned against consuming high amounts of cassia bark, one of the four species of cinnamon, because of its coumarin content. Recent European studies have shown that cinnamon derived from the cassia plant contains this toxic compound, which in large concentrations, is known to cause liver and kidney damage. The powdered cinnamon found on most supermarket shelves is generally derived from the Cassia plant so it is wise to avoid using it in large amounts.

In our T/C+ Leukemia and Diabetic Pilot Survey we use a formulation of the sugar Trehalose, Ceylon cinnamon, and bio-available ionic multi-trace minerals. This Pilot Survey should help us determine if there are any synergetic benefits that may include lowering blood sugar levels, helping arthritis sufferers and lowering the risk or even reversing diabetes.

Your assistance is encouraged on the Leukemia and Diabetic Pilot Survey. The same protocol will be used for both. We are not claiming any improvement in either Leukemia or Diabetes. We do not know if the combination of the three nutrients involved will or will not benefit the health condition of participants in the six month Pilot Survey. We are highly encouraged with the positive response to date but more research is needed and welcome participation.

The Grapefruit Diet

The Grapefruit Diet
By Terje Ellingsen

The Grapefruit diet is not a diet for life. It is a short time diet; it only lasts 2 1/2 months. It is a diet for rapid weight loss and fast weight loss diets are always popular. We have seen popular diets come and go and this dieting program is no exception; we can call it a fad diet. It is also a weight loss diet for real heavy weighters who need to lose lots of pounds.

If you follow this diet exactly you should be able to lose 52 pounds during this two and a half month's dieting period. To sustain the weight loss however, you need to change to a long term diet. The usefulness of this diet is to motivate people who are severely overweight towards a flying dieting start. If you look at the diet this way, it might be useful for you.

  • This diet allows no desserts, breads, white vegetables or sweet potatoes
  • The diet does not allow eating between meals. If you follow the diet you will not get hungry
  • Stay on the diet 12 days, then stop the diet for 2 days and repeat the dieting cycle for two and a half month (approximately 75 days)..

An Introduction to the HCG Diet

An Introduction to the HCG Diet

The HCG diet uses a diet drops to help a dieter burn fat calories instead of food calories, with the goal being very rapid weight loss.

In concert with the HCG diet drops, the dieter maintains a 500-calorie per day diet, forcing the body to burn fat instead of food calories.

The actual value of the HCG diet drops has been contested, and the FDA has begun to limit sales by shutting down suppliers that were making excessive claims about the diet drops' effect.

However, remaining suppliers point to the fact that regulators targeted the vendors who exaggerated the effects of the diet, and not the HCG diet itself.

The very low calorie diet plan was defined by Dr. Simeons, who formulated the HCG drops.

The Very Low Calorie diet plan is intended to put the body into starvation mode, forcing it to burn stored fat as a substitute for food calories.

The dieter eats only what is absolutely necessary to stem the urges for food.

During breakfast, the diet plan recommends tea or coffee with one tablespoonful of milk. This is all the milk that is allowed during a 24-hour period.

Sweeteners, especially artificial sweeteners like saccharine or herbs like stevia, may be added to the coffee or tea.

For lunch, the diet recommends 100 raw grams of very lean protein. For example, this could include very lean beef, veal, shrimp, lobster, chicken breast, or white fish.

Any fat on the meat should be removed before cooking, and the cooking process should not involve any additional fats.

Grilling or boiling is fine; frying in oil - even healthy oils - is not. Lunch can also include one kind of vegetable and fruit, such as one apple, half a grapefruit, or a handful of strawberries.

The same rules that apply to lunch also apply to dinner. The vegetable choice may include spinach, green salad, beet greens, tomato, onion, cabbage, asparagus, cucumber, chicory, asparagus, fennel, celery, red radishes, or chard.

As the HCG diet has become more popular, dieters have begun to share recipes for the 500-calorie diet, and a number of these are now available online.

The diet drops come in a kit, which is sold by suppliers, and that kit also includes a detailed description of the Very Low Calorie diet.

It is best to consult a doctor before beginning the HCG diet - or any aggressive weight loss regimen. Weight loss - and especially weight control - are extremely important for long-term health, but aggressive dieters may look at their weight as a cosmetic problem rather than a health problem.

A doctor can be a valuable counselor, helping the dieter to ensure not only that his or her weight loss choices produce a favorable cosmetic outcome, but more importantly that they provide a strong and beneficial foundation for long term good health. Kyle is beauty professional who specializes in HCG diet.

Weight Training Basics To Actually Build Muscle

Weight Training Basics To Actually Build Muscle

Good weight training basics are essential. If you don't get the basics right, no amount of supplements or secret potions or advanced training programs will help you.

Fortunately, weight training to build muscle is not that complicated. It's a lot simpler than most people will tell you, or than most articles online make it out to be.

So, here are the weight training basics that will allow you to make great progress!

Good Exercise Form

Good exercise form is essential. Not just for making progress and getting stronger, but so that you don't hurt yourself. An injury can really set back your training.

Whatever exercise you're doing, make sure you're doing it right. This will also serve to stress the muscles you're trying to stress in your exercises - rather than straining other muscles, or your connective tissue.

Free Weights or Machines?

This is a big question, and a quagmire really. For experienced people, I think that free weights are better - they challenge your balance, and I personally just like heaving around big chunks of metal!

But if you're just starting out, refine your weight training basics with machines. Weight machines are much more controlled, and can help you train good form. And it's harder (though not impossible) to hurt yourself using machines rather than with free weights.

So, start with machines. But once you've got the hang of it, move on to free weights.

Get Sore

Yes, get sore. If you're going to the gym to workout, then really workout. Don't lie to yourself and just go through the motions of exercising - really push yourself.

Now, pushing yourself is different for everybody. But one of the most important weight training basics is the principle of 'progressive overload' - you must work harder each and every time you go to the gym.

More repetitions with that weight, or simply lifting a heavier weight. If you just keep lifting the save weight that you were lifting last week or last month, you're not getting any stronger.

Eat!

Muscles don't grow out of nothing. You need to give yourself the energy to build that muscle!

Now, you can only grow so much muscle in a week. If you're just starting out, one pound of muscle a week is great! But after a few months it'll probably drop to half a pound per week. But this muscle only grows if you're eating enough to build it.

When you eat too much and don't workout, you grow more fat tissue. When you workout and eat a little too much, you put on muscle tissue. And if you workout and eat a ton, then you put on muscle and fat.

Some people try to stay really lean and muscular looking while putting on more muscle weight. This can work, but it requires really exact calorie counting and it puts a strain on your muscles - since they grow best in an environment with lots of extra energy.

In the beginning, my advice would be to not stunt your muscle growth. Eat a lot, don't' worry about a little fat gain, but make sure you're giving yourself enough energy to put on that extra muscle.

So, Now…

Now that you're familiar with the weight training basics, you're ready to hit the gym. If you want simple, effective workout routines and some more info about weight training to build muscle, check out the links below.

How To Save on Health Insurance

How To Save on Health Insurance
By Kay Lowe

With health care costs soaring through the roof, the cost of health insurance premiums are increasing as well. Health insurance is a necessity, however, when you consider the costs of one visit to the emergency room, surgery to set a broken bone, scans, lab and other costs. When your budget is limited, how can you keep the costs of your health insurance premiums down? There are several steps you can take to reduce your health insurance costs and still maintain adequate medical coverage when you need it.

First step is to consider what health insurance options you have. Does your employer offer a group medical benefit? Many employers (and/or labor unions) offer health benefits to full-time employees. Group health insurance is usually the cheapest way to get medical coverage; an employer can negotiate with health insurance companies to get a group health plan at cheaper rates. In addition, many employers will pay part of the premium, reducing your health insurance cost even further. Another consideration is whether your spouse has health coverage available through their employer? If so, compare your health benefits plan to that of your spouse, and decide which health plan is the better buy. It may be possible to have one spouse carry family health insurance coverage and the other drop their health benefits. Many employers have multiple health insurance options, so review these plans as well. Choose the health plan that best meets your needs at the cheapest rate.

If no health insurance coverage is available through your employer, there are other ways to obtain health insurance coverage. Individual and family private health insurance policies are available. Shop and compare benefits and premiums from each health insurance plan. If you and your family are generally healthy, the new Health Savings Account (HSA) may be worth consideration. The HSA is an account that allows you to save tax-free dollars for your medical/health expenses. Similar to an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you are limited in the amount that you are allowed to contribute each year; however, with the HSA, withdrawals for health expenses are not penalized, and no tax is paid on the withdrawal. When paired with a health insurance policy that has high deductibles and low rates, the HSA may be ideal for you. Save money in the HSA for deductibles and co-pays, and you're set.

For those over 65 or permanently disabled, Medicare is available through the federal government. The original Medicare is an 80/20 plan (they pay 80% of eligible expenses and the insured pays 20%) with an annual deductible and a monthly premium. Supplemental health plans are available to cover this deductible and co-pay. These supplemental health plans are usually private and the insured pays a premium. In addition to the original Medicare plan, there are Medicare HMOs. In these Medicare HMO health plans, the Medicare premium is paid to an HMO to provide benefits to the insured. HMO plans are more restrictive in that patients must get care through a network provider, but often these plans cover more prescription drugs and preventive care than original Medicare does.

Recently some employers have offered lower premiums to employees who do not smoke cigarettes. This is currently a controversial topic for some, but it certainly may begin a trend. In the future, employers and their health insurance providers could offer reduced premiums for employees who maintain normal weight, exercise regularly, and receive certain wellness benefits. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle lowers the risk to the health insurance company that they will be paying big bucks in health care down the road. And health insurance, as any other insurance, is all about risk.

Bottom line: going without health insurance coverage is a big risk for you. Find health coverage that you can afford just in case Murphy comes knocking at your door!

Food Dyes That Can Trigger Allergic Reactions

Food Dyes That Can Trigger Allergic Reactions

Due to the magic and wonder of food dyes in the manufacturing and processing divisions of the food industry, the general consumer is led through a myriad of intense colors and textures with every trip to the grocery store. Unknown to that consumer though, many seemingly common staples we purchase repetitively are "dressed up" to awaken the senses of the buying public.

Some examples of this, oranges are not necessarily orange in color when they are picked ripe right of the tree. Many times food dyes are added to get that beautiful orange sheen. A ripe orange is actually often shades of gray or splotchy orange in color.

Tomatoes, when picked, can be a cross between shades of green to different levels of pink. That bright juicy red color though is often washed on with food dyes.

Red cherries when processed always turn gray but the buying public always visualizes a cherry as red. Enter more food dyes.

Dyes for cosmetic purposes often get utilized for processed foods because cooking, baking, heat and light, temperature changes etc. can all lead to a lack of visual appeal in the final product.

Common Man-Made Food Dyes Used In The Market

The manufacturing industry itself formerly had 100's of food dye selections which was available for their use. As the years progressed, this number has been whittled down considerably. Today, the seven most popular man-made colors used include the following:

Blue #1, brilliant blue, FCF, E133, available in the form of both dyes and lake
Blue #2, Indigotine, E132, dyes and lake
Green #3, Fast Green, FCF, E143 dyes and lake
Red #40, Allura Red, AC, E129, dyes and lake
Red #3, Erythrosine, E127, dye only
Yellow #5, Tartrazine, E102, Dye only
Many of these colors come in two versions, as shown above. They are known as Dyes (water-soluble) and Lakes (not water-soluble, generally for hard candies). Many people though show a sensitivity or an allergic reaction to the colorings used on this list. Reported complaints often include the following:

breakout of skin rashes or hives anywhere on the body
swelling, especially at the site of contact with the dye
stomach and digestive complaints
severe reactions possible ending in an anaphylactic reaction
increased rates, signs and symptoms of Autism or ADHD
Natural Food Dyes - How Do They Differ?

Just the words natural food dyes leads many to believe this group must be a step above the synthetic (man-made) varieties. Research, the medical community and public pressure has found many in the manufacturing industry willing to switch to natural food dyes for their source of colorings. This group includes:

Caramel coloring made from caramelized sugar
Annatto is a red-orange dye grown from seed
Chlorophyll- a green dye from plant pigments
Cochineal- a red carmine from an insect
Beetroot, Turmeric, Saffron, Paprika & Elderberry Juice- All taken from the plant or spice and used natural for color.
Titanium Dioxide- compound which yields the color white
Silver, Gold or Aluminum- each of these are used as themselves.
Almost every one of these has yielded an appropriate substitute except the cochineal red.

Obtaining a food dye from an entire species of insects, grown and slaughtered for the sole purpose of obtaining its red coloring has many people upset and vocal about finding even another alternative.

So, to date, protecting yourself or a family member from artificial food dyes or avoiding the carmine-colored cochineal beetle is only possible by carefully watching the ingredient labels on all packaged or processed foods.

Lifestyle Tips That Will Make You Gorgeous

Lifestyle Tips That Will Make You Gorgeous

Lifestyle goes hand in hand with beauty. Don't believe me? Well, what you eat, how you live your life and the products you use all optimise how gorgeous you can look and feel. Our skin is like a mirror: it reflects what's going on inside. Blemishes, dry patches and aging skin are often related to bad lifestyle choices that lead to dietary toxins. It's these toxins - and we all have them - that ruin the way our body and skin behaves from day to day. Even if you look great now - you have no idea how much better your skin, hair and body (in general) could look. I'm going to give you 3 sure- fire ways to maximise your beauty just by tiny alterations to your lifestyle.

Cherie's Ultimate Lifestyle Tips (Part One) -

1. What You Should Eat: I'm not going to say 'eat healthier' because I'm sure you have heard that a thousand times. Not only is it tough to maintain a healthy eating lifestyle on a constant basis, it's also extremely dull picturing your future on carrot sticks and water. I could tell you that a lifestyle centred around tomatoes, lemons, watercress and berries would benefit you since they are amazing skin boosters - and I'd be telling the truth - but I'm sure you want a quicker and easier way to becoming smoking hot. So, instead, I offer you the exact ingredients necessary to get gorgeous, radiant skin... fast and also where to get them.

Firstly, my all time favourite - Organic Udo's Choice Ultimate Oil Blend 500ml. I absolutely swear by this. I wish I had Dr Udo's personal email so I could tell him I love him! It's simple, you pop a tablespoon of it into your smoothie or water and half an hour later, your skin feels like you have borrowed Aphrodite's face for the day. Your skin is so soft and I have even experienced dry patches clearing up like magic. Plus, it has a full array of total wellness benefits that work alongside the beauty aspect, so if you want to find out how it can help to make you gorgeous - get a bottle. It is a 'must - have' in my life for sure.

Buy Spirulina. My uncle Justin - who has been at so many world class seminars on nutrition and lifestyle - has spent a fortune finding out what works and what doesn't (especially when it comes to looking amazing.) One time, when I was at his house, he put this green powder into my fruit juice. I was horrified, I didn't want to touch it never mind actually eat it! But, the truth is, Spirulina is very mild tasting, almost refreshing on the tongue. Plus, it just happens to be one of the most naturally nutrient rich foods on earth.

Spirulina has the most remarkable concentration of working nutrients ever known in any food, plant, grain or herb. It actually contains ALL of the essential amino acids and so is described as a 'complete protein. Within minutes of eating it, you get a noticeable burst of energy (which I found made my face look instantly radiant.) It's really unbelievable and has increased my quality of life on so many levels. After all, what you put inside your body is reflected in the health and beauty outside of it. I buy the organic powder only (don't buy the tablets because the absorption rate is lower in tablet form) .

If you buy these two skin savers as part of a reasonable lifestyle, you are already half way there to your beauty transformation.

2. What you should drink - What I am about to say will make you groan in the same fashion as when your mother told you to clean your room but unfortunately it's so true that I have to mention it.

It's Water. Yes, boring I know... but honestly, since I started drinking just under 2 litres a day, my skin glows like I'm in love. It's such simple addition to your lifestyle and yet I find it more effective than any cream. Water plumps out the skin, flushes away imperfections and keeps your skin hydrated and smooth. I also find that adding a slice of lemon to it is even more potent, with faster results. I didn't start on two litres but trust me, make an effort and as your water intake increases, so will your confidence.

3.Make your own face mask/skin tonic

Let me tell you something - creams with "extract of..." (fill the blank) are usually complete rubbish. Unless they are organic, you are going to get a whole catalogue of chemicals that over time will actually cause you skin problems and damage your body. Get the right cost effective natural ingredients and you will see better results for longer, all while saving some money.

Here is the really simple miracle tonic that I started using a few years ago when I had horrific skin problems. My lifestyle consisted of work, work and did I mention work? I was run down and my skin knew it. Pimples, dryness, you name it - I had it. I was even using cream for months that the doctor prescribed but it never worked. This mask, without exaggeration, cleared up my skin and made it soft and more youthful in 6 hours!

You will need: 1 tsp Extra virgin olive oil 5 tbsp Organic Apple Cider Vinegar 10 tbsp Green Tea (To make a scrub, add sugar until thick and 1 tsp honey)

Mix it up, dab it on with a cotton pad, leave it alone. Wake up in the morning a goddess. Perfect.

If you add the above products to your lifestyle, I guarantee that in a very short time you will wonder how you ever lived without them. I feel truly gorgeous after I have used these tips and I know that you will also.

Have a wonderfully radiant day,
Cherie

Asthma and Exercise: One Breath Closer

Asthma and Exercise: One Breath Closer

There are a lot of adults and children who would love to live a more physically active life, unfortunately, asthma can be quite debilitating at times. I've lived my whole life with asthma and as a kid growing up, the usual child's play such as bicycling, jump roping, roller skating etc. was very few and far in between for me. I lived a sedentary life for more than half of my life, until weight became an issue. Since exercise is such a huge part of weight loss, and balanced living, then the question remains, how can one become physically active, while keeping asthma under control?

Asthma, simply put, is a chronic lung disorder, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath. Most asthmatics think that exercising just isn't an option for them and that it does more harm than good, I too used to feel that way, but as a Certified Fitness Trainer living with asthma, I know longer agree. Now, Strength training, Jump roping, hiking, kick boxing and more, has been a part of my life for more than eight years. Exercising regularly has slowly built up my endurance and strengthened my heart and lungs. However, I'm never too far away from my inhaler. The severity of asthma does differ from person to person, so you should always consult with your doctor and have a thorough evaluation before starting any sort of exercise program.

Every Breath You Take

Correct breathing is crucial for someone suffering from asthma. There are many breathing techniques that will improve your heart and lungs. Below are two simple breathing exercises that you can do almost anywhere.

Deep Breathing. While standing or lying down, inhale as much oxygen as you can and then exhale gradually. You can do this anywhere, while you are working out, cooking or driving. It's just that simple!

Abdominal Breathing. Lay on your back in a comfortable position. Put one hand on your chest and another on your abdomen. Inhale deeply and slowly and feel the pull at your mid section. Ideally, while you do this, the hand on your belly will rise higher than the one on your chest. Now, exhale only through your mouth. Then breathe in from your nose and hold it for close to 7 seconds. Breathe out till you finish counting up to 8. As you come close to finishing this, squeeze your abdominal muscles to make sure there is no residual air. This is one of the easiest exercises for increasing lung capacity.

Exercise Tips

*Slowly build up your cardiovascular system and start with low intensity aerobic exercises.

- Take short brisk walks around your neighborhood, and every 4-6 weeks increase your pace and distance. Cold air could possibly trigger an asthma attack, so monitor the weather conditions and bring your inhaler. If outdoors is not for you, take advantage of a treadmill and apply the same rules as if you were walking outside.

- Go swimming this improves your cardiovascular system, helps you lose weight, and sculpts your upper and lower body muscles.

- Take a Yoga or Pilates class to strengthen, tighten your core, and tone your whole body. This will get rid of some of your stress, and over time you will adopt a new breathing pattern. You will begin using your abdominal muscles and the lower part of your diaphragm, while relaxing your chest muscles.

- Don't forsake strength training. You can increase muscle mass, have a more defined body, while working up a sweat, all without experiencing an over rapid heart rate. Children can also start a strength training program, according to the National Academy of Sports Medicine and National Strength and Conditioning Association. Children as young as 7 or 8 years old, are old enough to learn the proper way to do such exercises as; a sit-up and push-up, under the strict guidance of a Certified and trained professional.

Common foods that are known to trigger an asthma attack and can hinder exercise

Dairy- eggs, soy, ice cream
Peanuts
Fish- shellfish
Wine and Beer
Spicy foods
Some weather conditions that can labor your breathing and provoke an attack

Cold weather and dry temperatures
Damp weather
Hot and humid condition
Cold and windy weather
If you suffer from asthma and you're looking to become an advanced workout junkie or even a pro-athlete, consider this: Jackie Joyner- Kersee Track and Field star was diagnosed with asthma as a freshman at UCLA. Joyner-Kersee went on to become a four time Olympian and three time gold medalist. Jerome Bettis a.k.a. "The Bus" a retired running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers was diagnosed with asthma at age 15. Bettis went on to play 13 seasons in the NFL and won a super bowl in the process.

Importantly! Always stay under close doctor's supervision. Seek out the expertise and training assistance of someone who has worked with asthma sufferers. Asthmatics can enjoy a full and active life just like everyone else. The key is understanding the severity of your asthma. Start off slow, and work your way up to the success you want to be.

How Hypnotherapy Can Help Ibs

How Hypnotherapy Can Help Ibs

Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS can be a condition that can have a significant effect on people’s lives. There are no conventional treatments for IBS and so many people may want to consider alternative therapies in order to help. In this article we will look at hypnotherapy and how it can help the condition

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the process of putting someone into an altered state in order to talk to their subconscious. By acting on the subconscious mind rather than the conscious mind it is possible to make quick changes to your state of mind that can have a significant effect on your life. Many people are worried about hypnosis as they see it as a way of controlling the mind however this is completely untrue. During hypnosis people are aware of everything that is being said to them and it is not possible for a hypnotherapist to make someone do something they do not want to. The patient is completely in control of the outcome of a session.

What is Irritable Bowel Syndrome?

Irritable Bowel Syndrome affects a large number of people and is viewed in the medical profession as a functional disorder. This basically means that the person does not have anything medically wrong with them. It is largely thought to be a psychological condition and is often caused by stress and other similar conditions. The main symptoms that people suffer from include bloating, flatulence and diarrhoea. Many people who suffer from IBS will find they experience weight loss even though they have not changed their diet. Some people can find that their bowel movements change significantly and will vary between diarrhoea and constipation. If you are suffering from symptoms like this it is important to visit your doctor to eliminate any medical cause and get a proper diagnosis.

Hypnotherapy and Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Before you begin treatment with a hypnotherapist it is important to ensure the person you are going to work with is reputable. You should find a hypnotherapist will want confirmation from your doctor of your condition to ensure you have had a proper medical diagnosis before beginning treatment.

Hypnotherapy can be very beneficial for sufferers of irritable bowel syndrome as it talks directly to your subconscious and can help to deal with the underlying issues. In addition it induces a feeling of relaxation that can help to reduce stress, this in addition can help to reduce the symptoms of the condition.

There are a large number of studies that have been carried out to determine the effectiveness of the use of hypnotherapy for IBS and many have come out as very successful. It is important to say that hypnotherapy is not a miracle cure and there may be certain factors in your life that mean hypnotherapy may not be of benefit.

However many of the authorities in IBS consider hypnotherapy as a largely beneficial treatment. For example the website IBStales recommends the treatment and claims that the success rate is around 80%. For that reason if you find you are suffering from IBS you may find that trying hypnotherapy could be significantly beneficial for you and definitely worth a try.
