What Is Health and Safety

What Is Health and Safety?

As a business owner you need to view Health & Safety not just as having no accidents, but working with your staff to ensure the working environment is safe so they are as productive as possible. Workplace Health and Safety relates directly to where staff work e.g. the building, machinery and immediate local working environment. It is not directly concerned with staff ill health, unless the workplace caused it, but the workplace should be able to deal with the affects of an ill health situation eg first aid provision. Many organisations now extend into employee well being to keep them as healthy and as productive as possible.

Good Health and Safety is made up from three key areas - Moral, Legal and Financial.

Moral Reasons

It should go without saying that as a business owner you don't want to injure anyone as no one likes to see people being injured, made ill or affected by anything that is dangerous. As a responsible employer you would expect that staff work safely during the day, or night, and return home in the same condition they went to work in. A moral and ethical duty now exists to protect staff - including those that you maybe don't actually control but have access to your premises e.g. visitors, contractors and the general public.

Legal Reasons

Health and Safety law affects all organisations without exception. Smaller organisations may not have to complete risk assessments but they are still subject to the same legal duties. If they are found negligent in their legal duties they can be taken to court as well as face civil actions. Smaller organisations are more liable to court action as they are easier to prosecute as they are not as complicated as larger firms who also employ specialist advisers to reduce their risk.

Financial Reasons

Paying staff when they are not at work costs money. In addition you may have to pay for temporary cover or overtime whilst they are off and together with possible re-training costs, management time involved, injuries can be expensive. Paying fines and compensation is also expensive and takes many months to conclude and involve lots of time in defending a prosecution or a claim.

Any adverse publicity may also cost money due to the loss of potential orders and customers. Insurance companies don't like accidents either as they know they can be expensive. Insurance premiums will rise if accidents take place, conversely they may reduce if effective Health and Safety takes place within the organisation therefore saving your business money.

Health and Safety is based in law but can be very subjective - everyone seems to have a view and it can be an emotive one. Unfortunately accidents have always happened and will continue to do so, but as long as you did everything to prevent them or reduce the severity, you can rest a bit easier.

Glucose Metabolism, Leukemia and Diabetes

Glucose Metabolism, Leukemia and Diabetes

Let us examine the relationship between the sugar load in the human body and Leukemia and Diabetes. Different sugars, both the good sugars and harmful sugars affect blood chemistry that can mobilize a cascade of problems or benefits in human health.

The sugars we eat and the nutrients we get help determine our health. Why are the highest incidences of cancer in western nations? The lowest recorded incidences of cancer according to WHO appears to be in the developing countries of Northern Africa, Southern and Eastern Asia.

Some people eat very poorly and then consume what may in reality be a type of antidote that keeps the bad stuff from doing as much harm. Studies provide data supporting the French Paradox which indicates that proanthocyanidins and other flavonoids in red wines prevents cardiovascular diseases and diabetes although they have high-fat diets.

How the glucose metabolism is effected is the key to serious health challenges. If we can correct sugar spikes and move toward an optimum glucose metabolism, it seems obvious that we could improve human health in a major way. When we started getting reports of diabetics having a lower sugar load in their blood while eating Trehalose than when they stopped, we knew we were onto something significant.

An Australian paper about leukemia children entitled, Altered glucose metabolism in childhood pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukaemia reported that "the cells of solid tumours are known to have an altered metabolism, with high rates of glucose uptake and glycolysis, which results in the excessive production of lactate." Connecting the dots of research, we learned that the phytochemicals in cinnamon are similar to those found in red wine. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) identified these phytochemicals as chalcone polymers, which increase glucose metabolism in the cells by 20 times or more. Cinnamon also contains flavonoids called anthocyanins which improve capillary function and also serve as powerful antioxidants.

Research suggests that cinnamon helps glucose metabolism and blood pressure regulation, actually lowering high blood pressure. Other studies published in Diabetic Care show cinnamon not only helps control blood sugar levels but also triglycerides, total cholesterol and the 'bad' LDL cholesterol in those with type II diabetes.

We have documented other university studies that indicate the same flavonoids found in cinnamon effects leukemia and lymphoma cells. According to some studies, these phytochemicals have the potential to be used in leukemia therapy with the advantages of being widely available and selective against tumors.

All cinnamon is not the same. European health agencies have warned against consuming high amounts of cassia bark, one of the four species of cinnamon, because of its coumarin content. Recent European studies have shown that cinnamon derived from the cassia plant contains this toxic compound, which in large concentrations, is known to cause liver and kidney damage. The powdered cinnamon found on most supermarket shelves is generally derived from the Cassia plant so it is wise to avoid using it in large amounts.

In our T/C+ Leukemia and Diabetic Pilot Survey we use a formulation of the sugar Trehalose, Ceylon cinnamon, and bio-available ionic multi-trace minerals. This Pilot Survey should help us determine if there are any synergetic benefits that may include lowering blood sugar levels, helping arthritis sufferers and lowering the risk or even reversing diabetes.

Your assistance is encouraged on the Leukemia and Diabetic Pilot Survey. The same protocol will be used for both. We are not claiming any improvement in either Leukemia or Diabetes. We do not know if the combination of the three nutrients involved will or will not benefit the health condition of participants in the six month Pilot Survey. We are highly encouraged with the positive response to date but more research is needed and welcome participation.

An Introduction to the HCG Diet

An Introduction to the HCG Diet

The HCG diet uses a diet drops to help a dieter burn fat calories instead of food calories, with the goal being very rapid weight loss.

In concert with the HCG diet drops, the dieter maintains a 500-calorie per day diet, forcing the body to burn fat instead of food calories.

The actual value of the HCG diet drops has been contested, and the FDA has begun to limit sales by shutting down suppliers that were making excessive claims about the diet drops' effect.

However, remaining suppliers point to the fact that regulators targeted the vendors who exaggerated the effects of the diet, and not the HCG diet itself.

The very low calorie diet plan was defined by Dr. Simeons, who formulated the HCG drops.

The Very Low Calorie diet plan is intended to put the body into starvation mode, forcing it to burn stored fat as a substitute for food calories.

The dieter eats only what is absolutely necessary to stem the urges for food.

During breakfast, the diet plan recommends tea or coffee with one tablespoonful of milk. This is all the milk that is allowed during a 24-hour period.

Sweeteners, especially artificial sweeteners like saccharine or herbs like stevia, may be added to the coffee or tea.

For lunch, the diet recommends 100 raw grams of very lean protein. For example, this could include very lean beef, veal, shrimp, lobster, chicken breast, or white fish.

Any fat on the meat should be removed before cooking, and the cooking process should not involve any additional fats.

Grilling or boiling is fine; frying in oil - even healthy oils - is not. Lunch can also include one kind of vegetable and fruit, such as one apple, half a grapefruit, or a handful of strawberries.

The same rules that apply to lunch also apply to dinner. The vegetable choice may include spinach, green salad, beet greens, tomato, onion, cabbage, asparagus, cucumber, chicory, asparagus, fennel, celery, red radishes, or chard.

As the HCG diet has become more popular, dieters have begun to share recipes for the 500-calorie diet, and a number of these are now available online.

The diet drops come in a kit, which is sold by suppliers, and that kit also includes a detailed description of the Very Low Calorie diet.

It is best to consult a doctor before beginning the HCG diet - or any aggressive weight loss regimen. Weight loss - and especially weight control - are extremely important for long-term health, but aggressive dieters may look at their weight as a cosmetic problem rather than a health problem.

A doctor can be a valuable counselor, helping the dieter to ensure not only that his or her weight loss choices produce a favorable cosmetic outcome, but more importantly that they provide a strong and beneficial foundation for long term good health. Kyle is beauty professional who specializes in HCG diet.

Weight Training Basics To Actually Build Muscle

Weight Training Basics To Actually Build Muscle

Good weight training basics are essential. If you don't get the basics right, no amount of supplements or secret potions or advanced training programs will help you.

Fortunately, weight training to build muscle is not that complicated. It's a lot simpler than most people will tell you, or than most articles online make it out to be.

So, here are the weight training basics that will allow you to make great progress!

Good Exercise Form

Good exercise form is essential. Not just for making progress and getting stronger, but so that you don't hurt yourself. An injury can really set back your training.

Whatever exercise you're doing, make sure you're doing it right. This will also serve to stress the muscles you're trying to stress in your exercises - rather than straining other muscles, or your connective tissue.

Free Weights or Machines?

This is a big question, and a quagmire really. For experienced people, I think that free weights are better - they challenge your balance, and I personally just like heaving around big chunks of metal!

But if you're just starting out, refine your weight training basics with machines. Weight machines are much more controlled, and can help you train good form. And it's harder (though not impossible) to hurt yourself using machines rather than with free weights.

So, start with machines. But once you've got the hang of it, move on to free weights.

Get Sore

Yes, get sore. If you're going to the gym to workout, then really workout. Don't lie to yourself and just go through the motions of exercising - really push yourself.

Now, pushing yourself is different for everybody. But one of the most important weight training basics is the principle of 'progressive overload' - you must work harder each and every time you go to the gym.

More repetitions with that weight, or simply lifting a heavier weight. If you just keep lifting the save weight that you were lifting last week or last month, you're not getting any stronger.

Eat!

Muscles don't grow out of nothing. You need to give yourself the energy to build that muscle!

Now, you can only grow so much muscle in a week. If you're just starting out, one pound of muscle a week is great! But after a few months it'll probably drop to half a pound per week. But this muscle only grows if you're eating enough to build it.

When you eat too much and don't workout, you grow more fat tissue. When you workout and eat a little too much, you put on muscle tissue. And if you workout and eat a ton, then you put on muscle and fat.

Some people try to stay really lean and muscular looking while putting on more muscle weight. This can work, but it requires really exact calorie counting and it puts a strain on your muscles - since they grow best in an environment with lots of extra energy.

In the beginning, my advice would be to not stunt your muscle growth. Eat a lot, don't' worry about a little fat gain, but make sure you're giving yourself enough energy to put on that extra muscle.

So, Now…

Now that you're familiar with the weight training basics, you're ready to hit the gym. If you want simple, effective workout routines and some more info about weight training to build muscle, check out the links below.
